Christmas in the mountains of Sterzing-Vipiteno

If you don't fancy spending your days on the Italian alps skiing, you can instead visit the Christmas Market in Sterzing-Vipiteno. Prepare to be enchanted by one of the most romantic Christmas markets in all of South Tirol.

The artistically carved nativity scenes are displayed to full effect in the little stalls, decorated with moss and fronds of fir trees from the forests. Twinkling garlands of lights and fir branches mark out the path to the Christmas market, where you can admire or buy hand-made Christmas tree decorations made of glass, straw and wood or traditional handcrafts such as "Patschen" – cosy slippers with lambswool lining.

Sleigh-riding and sledging into the valley for 9.6 km!

Italy's longest and best-lit sledging course can be found in Sterzing-Vipiteno in South Tyrol: sledging is very popular with families and indeed anyone who likes whizzing down the hillside and into the valley! On the Rosskopf you don't have to bring your own sledge up the mountain. There are gondolas to do that for you! And after a good rest in one of the many cosy huts on the Rosskopf you can race off down the valley to do it all over again.
